- mudrā; seal, sign, symbol, emblem, proof, assurance, approve; also [lang id =1028]印契; [lang id =1028]契印; [lang id =1028]印相. Manual signs indicative of various ideas, e. g. each finger represents one of the five primary elements, earth, water, fire, air, and space, beginning with the little finger; the left hand represents [lang id =1028]定 stillness, or meditation, the right hand [lang id =1028]慧 discernment or wisdom; they have also many other indications. Also, the various symbols of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, e. g. the thunderbolt; cf. [lang id =1028]因.* * *1.又作印契、 印相、 契印等, 就是用手指結成各種的形相, 以作為法德的標誌。 2.印定之義, 佛法的真理, 可以依三法印或一實相印來作衡量, 凡是合於此等印的, 便可以判定是佛法。
